jeon jungkook.
PARCHMENTS & THREADS & INFO

NAME: jeon jungkook
AGE & DOB: 17 & 09/01/2000
PLACE OF BIRTH: seoul, south korea
BLOOD STATUS: half-blood
FAMILIAR: kuro the black cat

HOUSE & YEAR: gryffindor & 4th
WAND: sturdy 10" apple wood unicorn hair core
ELECTIVES: care of magical creatures, muggle studies
OTHER: broomstick enthusiast, chocolate frog card collector, wizarding chess champion, etc

in the jeon household, there had always been three things jungkook had been taught to fiercely identify with: being a gryffindor, being unwilling to back down from a challenge, and being his father's son.
1 » even before he'd made it to yonsei and could be sorted accordingly, jungkook couldn't remember a time that anybody in his family had inferred he might be sorted into any house other than gryffindor. it was like he'd been sorted at birth, and instead of a sentient wizard's hat to tell him where he belonged, his family made sure jungkook knew, instead.

the house had always donned festive colours of red and gold around any celebratory holiday, and if they were having family over, there was absolutely no excuse not to show off their patriotic devotion to the best house there was. there weren't many members of his family that had been sorted into another house, and those that had were either devastated or begrudgingly optimistic that it wasn't as bad one might think. any arrogance about their status as gryffindor alumni never got in the way of including and accepting those in their family and outside of it, though. even slytherins had a place in the hearts of the jeon family. what jungkook had never learned, however, in his journey of self love as a gryffindor, was that not everybody was going to share his joy about it.

on the contrary, he was rendered humble by a particular experience in his second year, where a feisty ravenclaw girl of the same age had gifted him with a howler during breakfast one morning. if asked, jungkook will relay the story in great detail and with the biggest of grins, because even though he'd spent the remainder of that year flinching every time he saw a red envelope, that very same girl had attended the end of year ball with him. clearly, it wasn't the worst experience he could've had, but regardless, he's learned by now to tone it down enough that he doesn't annoy his classmates. for the most part. it's hard to refrain from charming the slytherin banners in the great hall to depict a snake being eaten by a lion, especially when there's a secret pleasure in knowing there's no doubt in anyone's mind who had done such a brave, playful thing.

2 » there had not been many instances in jungkook's life where he'd opted out of dealing with something he found challenging. truthfully, the boy hadn't met too much prejudice or plight in his short life thus far to say he was very brave at all, but. for all the trials and tribulations of teenage-hood, he had always tried to rise to the occasion. whether it be something personal, like the argument he'd had with his best friend in first year, when the other boy had been sorted into hufflepuff. much to his dismay, as his own family was highly proud of their own gryffindor roots and even more so disappointed that their son would never achieve the same prestigious title of a gryffindor alumni. it had created a rift between them, one that jungkook had been unwilling to accept despite pressure from his own parents to "stick closer to his own kind", "be loyal to your brothers first", and "support from afar". bravery and chivalry meant sticking up for what was right, even in the face of his own parents, which is exactly what he had done. in the end, it was hard to argue with a kid who used someone's own morals against them to make a point.

hating to lose, but too aware of his own shortcomings, jungkook's one reprieve from being relentlessly determined is knowing that doing his best at school work is about as good as it was going to get for him. not known for being the brightest bunch in the castle, jungkook fits perfectly well into his cookie-cutter stereotype: academics just aren't really his thing, but he's smart enough to (generally) get by just doing his best. there's a few years until he really has to worry about it anyway, so most of his stubborn personality gets channeled into winning as many games of wizard chess that he can and collecting the rarest of chocolate frog cards to add to his ever growing stack.

3 » if jungkook were to keep count, he's sure that for every day of the year, there would be someone asking whether he was his father's son. it's a title to live up to, as jeon jungjin is one of yonsei's most acclaimed quidditch playing alumni. there's not a place he can go with the man without being clapped on the back, strangers instantly proud of him simply because of his father's fame. it had always been such an amazing feeling, to watch as people flocked to meet the famous seeker, who now played professionally in one of asia's most prestigious teams. there was never anything but a glint of hope in jungkook's eyes, as a young boy, that he might live up to the man's surreal success.

these dreams were destroyed, like a brick wall hit with a confringo spell, when ki heehyun, a fifth year girl, snagged the seeker position out from under his nose during try-outs. (he'd heard about the seeker who'd been injured: splinched his entire arm in an epic battle against his sibling. legend says he got knocked into their fireplace by accident, brother in tow, and an innocent wrestling match between siblings had turned into a floo nightmare). he hadn't been practicing nearly as long as she had, and in hindsight, it wasn't a surprise that she'd won out over him, but jungkook's father and family couldn't hide their disappointment in him. even his younger sister had been nagging him to start taking things more seriously, rather than relying on his gifts and their last name to get him what he wanted. needless to say, he's never let this failure go. because now he won't just be known as the great jeon jungjin's son, but as the son who wouldn't be following in his father's legacy, despite how very passionate he was about it. a warning to anybody who decides to poke this soft spot: jungkook's gryffindor blood sizzles hot and his short temper is ne'er easier to spark than when he's teased about not being on the quidditch team.
